Generation Y (also called the Millennial Generation) is made up of people born from the early 1980s to early 2000’s. They represent the largest consumer group in the history of the United States. This is the first generation to grow up with the internet and the new wave of communication tools (email, texting, IM, Facebook, Twitter, etc.).
Gen Y has been hit particularly hard by unemployment due to our most recent financial crises and the 2000 dot com bubble. This has driven Gen Y to live with parents longer but also given rise to the highest level of volunteerism of any other generation in history. Generation Y feels like they can truly make things happen themselves and even choose some jobs based on the perceived significance of the work as opposed to the pay. These things may lead to a continuance of the entrepreneurial push started by Generation X.
